Ozzy Osbourne : Patient Number 9 – Epic / Sony Music (2022)
Please watch the video above for the full review.
With a selection of guest stars such as Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde, Mike McCready, Robert Trufillo, Taylor Hawkins, Duff McKagan, Chad Smith, Josh Homme, Andrew Watt and Chris Chaney this was never going to be an ordinary album and it’s not.
I am seeing some less than favourable reviews on social media but I think if you approach this with the sense of wonder you had when you first heard guitar riffs blasting through a marshall amp and you immerse yourself in the the observational and honest lyrics from the great man himself there is plenty to enjoy here. In fact this is classic Ozzy and I just love it.
Floating of top the of the bone crunching riffs in every Ozzy Osbourne album you can find great choruses and melodies that have many pop sensibilities. Andrew Watts the guitarist from California Breed (which featured Glenn Hughes) has become an award winning producer with such a wide range of artists such as Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Eddie Vedder, Ed Sheeran to Ozzy Osbourne.
Some of the tracks seem to channel the the feel of Vol 4 by Black Sabbath in place. This is his most Sabbath sounding album in years to me.
