The 1996 DEP Sessions and Fused
The 1996 DEP Sessions
Originally recorded in 1996, these sessions were a product of Iommi and Hughes reuniting with a fresh creative spark. Recorded at DEP International Studios in Birmingham, these demos, known as *The 1996 DEP Sessions*, capture a modern yet classic rock sound with Hughes’ powerful vocals meshing perfectly with Iommi’s signature riffs. Although they were left unfinished due to Black Sabbath’s reunion, they were officially released in 2004 to combat bootleg versions.
Now, for the first time, these tracks are being pressed on limited Translucent Black Ice vinyl, giving fans a chance to experience them in a new light.
Fused
Following the success of The 1996 DEP Sessions, Iommi and Hughes continued their collaboration, resulting in the 2005 album Fused. Recorded at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales and produced by Bob Marlette,
The album, which reached number 34 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Chart, is now reissued on Translucent Cobalt Blue vinyl, including three bonus tracks.
The relationship between Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes goes back to the mid-eighties when Hughes provided vocals for the 1986 Black Sabbath album Seventh Star, Initially intended as Iommi’s solo debut, record label pressures saw it billed as a Black Sabbath release. Despite the turbulent times, the album was a commercial success, setting the stage for future collaborations.
