At Long Last – Buckingham Nicks Gets Its First Official Reissue!

This is something I honestly thought I might never get to say…

The legendary Buckingham Nicks album is finally getting its first proper reissue! That’s right – the elusive 1973 debut album by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, released before they joined Fleetwood Mac, is officially being re-released this September, remastered and lovingly restored from the original master tapes.

For many fans, this album has taken on an almost mythical status. If you’ve ever tried tracking it down, you’ll know just how tricky it’s been. No official CD. No digital release. And original vinyl copies? Hugely sought after and often eye-wateringly expensive.

But now – after more than 50 years – Buckingham Nicks is finally coming home.

Release Date: September 19, 2025

This is a huge moment for fans of classic rock, Fleetwood Mac, and anyone who’s followed the journey of Stevie and Lindsey. This is where it all began – and now we get to hear it as it was meant to be heard.

What’s Included?
Newly remastered from the original analog tapes
First-ever official CD and digital release
Limited edition Rhino High Fidelity 180g vinyl (5,000 numbered copies)
Even rarer deluxe vinyl (2,000 copies) with two replica 7-inch singles
– “Crying In The Night” b/w “Stephanie”
– “Don’t Let Me Down Again” b/w “Races Are Run”
The vinyl was remastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at Optimal, and the CD/digital master comes via Chris Bellman – both names that always mean quality in audiophile circles.

The Music
If you’ve never heard this album, you’re in for something really special. There’s a rawness here, an innocence even, but also the unmistakable magic that would go on to define Rumours and Tusk. The harmonies, the emotional tension, the contrasting songwriting voices – it’s all here, already in full bloom.

Opening with Stevie’s “Crying In The Night,” you get that mix of mystical storytelling and earthbound emotion. Then there’s “Don’t Let Me Down Again” – a track that would later make its way into Fleetwood Mac live sets – all swagger and sunshine.

And of course, the album closer “Frozen Love” – the very song that blew Mick Fleetwood’s mind when he heard it in Studio A at Sound City in 1974. That chance moment led to one of rock’s most fateful line-up changes.

As Stevie says in the new liner notes by David Fricke:

“[We] knew what we had as a duo, two songwriters that sang really well together. And it was a very natural thing, from the beginning.”
And Lindsey reflects:

“We were pretty young to be doing that work… but it stands up.”
And it really does.

Colour Variants for Collectors
There are also some coloured vinyl editions being released across various retailers:

Custard – Amazon
Baby Pink – Indie stores
Violet – Books-A-Million
Baby Blue – General retail
So whether you’re a casual listener or a dedicated collector, there’s something for you here.

Available to Pre-order Now
You can pre-order all editions now, including the Rhino.com exclusives. And if you just want a taster, the newly remastered “Crying In The Night” is available to stream right now – and yes, it sounds beautiful.

To me, this is one of those releases that bridges the gap between myth and memory. It’s not just the album that came before Fleetwood Mac – it’s a glimpse into two artists on the edge of something seismic. This isn’t just nostalgia; it’s musical archaeology – and now it’s finally being handled with the respect and care it’s always deserved.

More thoughts and hopefully a review coming to the YouTube channel soon. Let me know if this is a holy grail release for you too!
