Rory Gallagher : The BBC Collection – Box Set & Vinyl Review

Rory Gallagher at The BBC – The Ultimate Collection

18CD & 2BluRay Box Set ( Video Review Above)

3LP Vinyl Edition (Video Review Below)

This is a dream come true for Rory Gallagher fans. The main Box Set spans 18 CDs and 2 Blu-rays, offering an incredible archive of Rory’s performances and sessions with the BBC. I have created a separate video for the 3LP Vinyl version which you can see below.

The Box Set includes 121 previously unreleased tracks, spanning radio sessions and live BBC concerts, along with two Blu-rays featuring unreleased concert footage. It comes in a beautifully packaged box, complete with a 40-page hardback book filled with unseen photos and an essay by Andy Kershaw, which adds depth to Rory’s rich history.

The sound quality is stunning, remastered at Abbey Road Studios, capturing Gallagher’s raw energy and blues-infused brilliance. With iconic performances like his 1980 Reading Festival show and appearances on The Old Grey Whistle Test, this collection is a must-have for long-time fans and newcomers alike.

For £118 (I got mine from Amazon France), the amount of material is astonishing, and it’s clear that a lot of love and care went into creating this definitive Rory Gallagher set. It’s a tribute to one of the greatest guitarists and performers of his generation, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this in my collection.

If you’re a fan of Rory Gallagher, grab this set while you can—it will certainly be one of my top purchases of 2024
