Thin Lizzy : Live and Dangerous : Super Deluxe Edition : 8CD Box Set – Review

At last I have a copy!

I’m thrilled to share with you an unboxing of a highly sought-after gem: the Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous Deluxe Edition. Released in January 2023, it sold out within 24 hours!

The Chase for the Box Set:
Initially, I hesitated to purchase, hoping for a price drop – a strategy that seems less effective nowadays. After missing out on the first release, I watched in dismay as prices skyrocketed on secondary markets. However, luck was on my side when it reappeared on Amazon at its original price, and I quickly grabbed my copy.

What’s Inside:
This 8 CD Super Deluxe Edition is a treasure trove for Thin Lizzy fans. It includes seven shows from 1976 to 1978, meticulously remastered from the original tapes. The box set features performances from iconic venues like the Hammersmith Odeon and the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, capturing the band’s raw energy and stage presence.

The Packaging and Booklet:
The box set is beautifully crafted, with each disc housed in fold-out panels adorned with live photos. The accompanying softback book is a delight, filled with essays, memorabilia, press ads, and photographs. It delves into the band’s history, the dynamics between members, and the stories behind these legendary recordings.

The Music Experience:
Listening to these recordings is like being in the first 15 rows of a Thin Lizzy concert. The band’s unique blend of hard rock and melodic elements shines through, making them a favorite even among those who typically don’t gravitate towards rock. The setlist feels like a greatest hits compilation, with classics like “Emerald,” “Opium Trail,” and “Bad Reputation” making appearances.

Personal Reflections:
As a young guitarist and band member, I initially resisted buying this album since it was so popular among my friends. However, when I finally did, its impact was undeniable. The twin guitar attack of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, the rhythmic prowess of Brian Downey, and the lyrical genius of Phil Lynott make Thin Lizzy a band to treasure.

Conclusion:
The Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous Deluxe Box Set is more than just a collection of music; it’s a piece of rock history. If you’re a rock fan, this is a must-have. Don’t hesitate – it’s a testament to the band’s enduring legacy and a showcase of their incredible talent. Thank you for watching, and keep celebrating the legends of rock!

Do we know for sure it is a 2nd pressing issue? It doesnt seem to be available anywhere other than amazon? It’s now £83 there. Maybe a batch that didn’t sell in another territory?
