David Hepworth : Deep 70s – The 4CD Box Set Review – This is the One to get!

Exploring the Rich Tapestry of the 1970s with “Deep 70s: Underrated Cuts from a Misunderstood Decade”

The 1970s, often dubbed a golden era of music for its revolutionary sounds spanning rock, disco, funk, and beyond, is revisited in the meticulously curated 4CD box set, “Deep 70s: Underrated Cuts from a Misunderstood Decade.”

I had already provided an in-depth look at the vinyl version of this collection, emphasizing the thoughtful presentation and high-quality pressing of the records. However after seeing comments from viewers and readers who went out and bought the 4CD Box Set version is became apparent that this version also needed to be covered!

Like the Vinyl version The box set is organised into thematic sides, each presenting a different facet of the decade. From rock and roll and blues to folk and beyond.

The vinyl version included 24 tracks the CD version boasts over 70 tracks and with the extended 36 page booklet is the one to get. Anything that includes Montrose, Ellen Foley and Mott The Hoople is going to get my vote! More

What sets this collection apart is not just the music but the stories these songs tell. Hepworth’s insights into each track’s background provide a deeper understanding of why these cuts, though perhaps underrated, are essential to grasping the decade’s musical significance. This contextual layer invites listeners to discover—or rediscover—the 1970s not as a single monolithic era but as a vibrant period of artistic exploration and expression.
