Jethro Tull Bursting Out Deluxe – 3CD/3DVD Due

Celebrating Jethro Tull’s Live Legacy: The Release of “Bursting Out (The Inflated Edition) [3CD & 3 DVD] Deluxe Edition

I was not sure this was going to happen, so I am thrilled to see I can now make room for another Jethro Tull Special Edition Remixed by Steven Wilson, this edition will bring a fresh perspective to this iconic live album, originally released in 1978, alongside a raft of previously unheard recordings.

The deluxe edition is divided into three CDs and three DVDs, ensuring a thorough experience that spans the auditory and visual spectrums of Jethro Tull’s live performance.

CD 1: Features “Bursting Out (Part 1)” in a Steven Wilson stereo remix, including soundcheck recordings and several tracks that were previously unreleased.
CD 2: Continues with “Bursting Out (Part 2)” in a similar remix style, adding more unreleased tracks to the collection.
CD 3: Presents a unique Steven Wilson mix of an edited version of the band’s 1978 performance at Madison Square Garden, a concert that was also released in 2009.

The DVDs offer an immersive experience with:

DVDs 1 & 2: The remixed tracks in high-quality 96/24 stereo and 5.1 surround sound, plus flat transfers of the original album.
DVD 3: A full 93-minute showcase of the Madison Square Garden concert, including over 50 minutes of video from the historic satellite broadcast, provided in both stereo and surround sound formats.

The original “Bursting Out” album was recorded during several nights across different venues, utilizing a portable 8-track tape recorder—a testament to the innovative spirit of the era. The recordings were later transferred to a 2″ multitrack, allowing Ian Anderson to sift through numerous shows to select the best live versions for the album.

The Madison Square Garden concert featured in the third DVD holds historical importance as it was part of a live transatlantic broadcast on BBC TV and Radio 1. This event marked the first time a live rock concert was broadcast via satellite, making it a pivotal moment in rock history. The concert also highlighted the band’s tight-knit performance dynamics, even in the absence of bassist John Glascock, who was unwell at the time.

For collectors and fans, the inclusion of numerous unreleased tracks and comprehensive remixes by Steven Wilson makes this edition a significant addition to any music library. It not only preserves but revitalizes the raw energy and intricate performances of Jethro Tull during their 1970s peak.

Ian Anderson’s reflection on the box set emphasizes the emotional and historical weight of these recordings: “Enjoy vintage Tull at its 70s best!” This release not only serves as a documentation of Jethro Tull’s vibrant live performances but also as a celebration of their enduring legacy in the world of rock music. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer to their music, “Bursting Out (The Inflated Edition)” offers a compelling journey through one of the most exciting periods in the band’s history.
