TALK TALK Revisit Their Acclaimed Catalog With The Very Best Of Talk Talk

Talk Talk’s music has always been a fascinating tapestry, weaving synth-pop hooks, post-rock innovation, and an emotional depth that’s uniquely their own. Now, on 14th March, the band’s legacy is being honoured with a new, chronological edition of The Very Best Of Talk Talk. This updated version of the classic 1997 compilation places the group’s greatest hits in the order they were originally released, and importantly includes a new selection from Talk Talk’s final album, Laughing Stock.

What’s Different This Time?

Chronological Order: This reissue moves away from the original 1997 tracklist, guiding listeners through the band’s evolution step by step—from their vibrant early singles to their later, more experimental forays.
Expanded Tracklist: The inclusion of music from Laughing Stock completes the career-spanning picture, spotlighting their transition into the realm of post-rock experimentation.
Multiple Formats: Available as a black gatefold 2LP set and on CD, the reissue promises a high-quality package to satisfy both new fans and serious collectors.

The Journey of Talk Talk
Formed in 1981 by Mark Hollis, Lee Harris, and Paul Webb, Talk Talk’s earliest successes came from synth-pop anthems such as “Talk Talk,” “Today,” “It’s My Life,” and “Such a Shame”—all products of their first two records, The Party’s Over and It’s My Life, which quickly charted in the UK and gained global attention.

Yet, it was their willingness to push boundaries that truly set them apart. The Colour of Spring marked a transition from catchy pop hooks to more introspective, atmospheric compositions. By the time they released Spirit of Eden in 1988, the band was fully immersed in an experimental, almost meditative sound—an approach culminating in 1991’s Laughing Stock, often hailed as a key influence in the creation of post-rock.

Talk Talk’s bold sonic path has had a profound impact on countless bands and artists—Kate Bush, Tears for Fears, and Radiohead are just a few who have cited them as a major inspiration. Their songs have also been reimagined by various acts, most famously No Doubt’s cover of “It’s My Life,” which introduced a fresh generation to the enduring appeal of Talk Talk’s songwriting.

For long-time listeners, this newly curated tracklisting offers a seamless journey through Talk Talk’s development—from synth-pop standouts to the more reflective, risk-taking compositions that would forever redefine the boundaries of rock music. For collectors, it’s a must-have that places the group’s discography in its proper historical context, adding extra depth to an already revered compilation. And for newcomers, it’s the perfect introduction to one of the most innovative bands of the 1980s and early ’90s.
