Trifecta Announces Sophomore Album “The New Normal”

A Fusion of Prog, Jazz, and Whimsy
Instrumental virtuosos Trifecta are set to enchant and intrigue with their upcoming album, “The New Normal,” slated for release on April 12, 2024, via Kscope. This eagerly anticipated second album follows their 2021 debut, “Fragments,” and sees the return of the powerhouse trio: bassist Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo/Steven Wilson), jazz keyboardist Adam Holzman (Grover Washington/Steven Wilson), and drummer Craig Blundell. Known for their exceptional talent and dynamic performances, the trio continues to push the boundaries of instrumental music, blending progressive rock and jazz fusion with a distinctively English wit.

“The New Normal” is an invitation to explore uncharted sonic territories. With tracks that bend the concept of time and sound, Trifecta introduces listeners to a world where the mundane is turned on its head, and even vegetables like the ‘Stroboscopic Fennel’ possess extraordinary qualities. This album promises to be a journey through musical landscapes filled with innovation and imagination.

The trio’s connection extends beyond their solo careers, having all performed together as part of Steven Wilson’s band, and their collaborative spirit shines through on this project. The album also features contributions from notable musicians such as Alex Lifeson (Envy of None/Rush) on guitar for “Once Around The Sun With You” and Theo Travis (Steven Wilson) on saxophone for the “Daddy Long Legs,” adding layers of depth and texture to the already rich musical tapestry.

An interesting highlight of the album is the use of John Paul Jones’ Chapman Stick from 1979, lent to Nick Beggs for the recording. This piece of musical history adds a unique touch to “The New Normal,” bridging the past with the present in Trifecta’s exploratory musical journey.

Recorded across Leighton Buzzard, Bedford, and New York from 2019 to 2023, “The New Normal” was engineered by the band themselves and mastered by Andy VanDette, known for his work with the Beastie Boys, Rush, and Whitney Houston. The album’s artwork, inspired by Hajo Muller, perfectly encapsulates the essence of the music within, inviting listeners to dive into the whimsical world of Trifecta.

“The New Normal” will be available in various formats, including a double LP, CD, a limited edition 2LP on white vinyl, and digital platforms. This release is not just an album; it’s a sonic adventure that defies the conventional, embodying the spirit of exploration and innovation that Trifecta stands for. Prepare to embark on a journey through the new normal, where the extraordinary is the standard, and the musical possibilities are endless.
