Gary Moore Blues Era Returns on Vinyl

Gary Moore Vinyl Reissues: Four Late-Career Gems Return to Vinyl

There are moments when releases quietly slip out without the fanfare they deserve — and this is one of them.

So I wanted to take a moment to shine a light on four Gary Moore vinyl reissues that are now available via BMG. These are all double albums, sensibly spread across two discs, and they focus on the latter part of Gary’s career — a period that, for me, contains some truly heartfelt and powerful blues performances.

If you’re a vinyl collector, or simply someone who connects deeply with Gary Moore’s music, these are absolutely worth your attention.

Bad For You Baby (2008)

This was Gary Moore’s penultimate studio album, and it captures him fully immersed in his blues phase — but with that unmistakable intensity he always brought to his playing.

The lineup here is tight and focused:

  • Gary Moore – vocals, guitar
  • Pete Rees – bass
  • Sam Kelly – drums
  • Vic Martin – keyboards

The vinyl presentation is straightforward — black vinyl, lyric inner sleeves — no gimmicks, just the music. And honestly, that feels right for Gary Moore.

This is a powerful, late-career statement — raw, direct, and full of emotion.

Old New Ballads Blues

A fascinating release — blending reinterpretations with new material — and featuring a stellar lineup including Don Airey on keyboards.

  • Gary Moore – vocals, guitar
  • Jonathan Noyce – bass
  • Darrin Mooney – drums
  • Don Airey – keyboards & arrangements

This one includes an information sheet with full credits, which I always appreciate. It adds context — something that physical media does so well.

Musically, it’s reflective, soulful, and steeped in blues tradition — but always with Gary’s signature phrasing and tone.

Live At Bush Hall (2007)

This is one of the real highlights of the set.

Recorded for a Planet Rock invite-only audience of around 400 people, this captures Gary Moore in an intimate setting — and absolutely on fire.

Band lineup:

  • Gary Moore – vocals, guitar
  • Brian Downey – drums
  • Vic Martin – keyboards
  • Pete Rees – bass

There’s an essay by Liz Barnes that perfectly captures the atmosphere — small room, but a huge performance.

What makes this special is that much of the set previews material from the then-upcoming Close As You Get album. It feels immediate, alive, and completely immersive.

Close As You Get (2007)

For me, this is the standout — perhaps because I remember buying it on CD when it first came out.

And now, finally, it’s on vinyl.

  • Gary Moore – vocals, guitar
  • Brian Downey – drums
  • Vic Martin – keyboards
  • Pete Rees – bass
  • Mark Feltham – harmonica

The opening track “If The Devil Made Whiskey” sets the tone immediately — gritty, authentic, and deeply rooted in the blues.

Some have described this album as patchy — but I completely disagree. I think it’s full of character, and it contains some of Gary’s most expressive late-period performances.

Pressing Quality & Listening Experience

All four releases are:

  • Double LPs
  • Black vinyl
  • Non-gatefold sleeves (but well presented)
  • Polylined inner sleeves on selected titles

These releases may not have had huge promotion, but they absolutely deserve attention.

They capture Gary Moore in his later years, fully immersed in the blues, still pushing himself creatively, and still delivering performances full of passion and authenticity.

If you’ve ever wanted these albums on vinyl — now is the time.

And if you’re discovering this era of Gary Moore for the first time…

You’re in for something special.
