Jethro Tull to Release Deluxe Edition of The Jethro Tull Christmas Album – Fresh Snow at Christmas
Jethro Tull fans can rejoice as the band prepares to release a special expanded edition of their 2003 Christmas Album on December 6, 2024. Titled The Jethro Tull Christmas Album – Fresh Snow at Christmas, this deluxe set includes new remixes by Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) and immersive surround sound mixes in Dolby Atmos and 5.1. The original album, which was praised by critics for its folky, eclectic energy, also featured new versions of classic Tull songs and festive reinterpretations of traditional pieces.
When it was first released, the Christmas Album marked Jethro Tull’s 21st studio record and highlighted the band’s unique ability to blend folk, rock, and classical elements. The album featured re-recordings of Tull classics like “A Christmas Song,” originally written in 1968, as well as “Ring Out Solstice Bells” and “Weathercock.” The collection included both new songs and fresh arrangements of traditional holiday tunes, such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “We Five Kings,” showcasing the band’s distinctive sound and Ian Anderson’s signature flute.
This deluxe edition, however, brings an entirely new dimension to the experience. The remixes and high-resolution sound, along with live material from performances at St. Bride’s in 2006 and 2008, create a richly immersive audio experience. The 4CD + Blu-ray set includes the original mixes, 2024 remixes, and previously unreleased live recordings, allowing fans to experience Jethro Tull’s music like never before.
The original album lineup included Ian Anderson, Martin Barre (guitar), Andrew Giddings (keyboards/accordion), Jonathan Noyce (bass), and drummers Doane Perry and James Duncan. As Anderson notes, the joy of revisiting these tracks lies in giving them a fresh perspective while remaining faithful to their core arrangements. This deluxe edition is a must-have for Tull enthusiasts and holiday music fans alike.
The set will also be available on vinyl for the first time, featuring a gatefold 180g 2LP format with the 2024 remixes. Pre-orders are available now through InsideOutMusic.
