Vinegar Joe Finer Things The Island Recordings 1972 – 1973 Box Set – Review

(Please watch the video above to see the full review and unboxing)

Vinegar Joe, Finer Things is a 3Cd Box Set from Esoteric Recordings and Cherry Red Records which covers the albums made between 1972 and 1973.

Not a long period at all but it was enough to produce three very enjoyable blues-rock albums. Imagine the Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers in places with some excellent female and male vocals from Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer.

The Albums
Vinegar Joe – 1972
Rock n Roll Gypsies – 1972
Six Star General – 1973

The CDs come in replica gatefold sleeves where appropriate and the extensive booklet contains a story about how Elkie Brooks was mugged and sent to the hospital as a publicity stunt! The 70s was a very different place to where we are now.

Both Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer went on to become household names after this but this is a great little box set to help introduce you to another of those bands you may have missed at the time or not have explored before.
