Malcolm Dome Tribute by Phil Aston Now Spinning Magazine

This is my video tribute to Malcolm Dome the Music journalist who has sadly passed away.
Although I never met Malcolm Dome his influences are clear to see on the shelves in my house which are full of albums and bands he introduced me to over the years.
Before the internet, the written word was how music fans connected to new music and how bands got the exposure they needed to be discovered.

I was the lead guitarist on NWOBHM band the Handsome Beasts in the early 1980s and we were even featured in the first issue of Kerrang. Malcolm’s enthusiasm for rock music gave me the confidence to that see I was part of something bigger than me. This was serious art and it would still be valid in the decades to come (which of course it is!).

He also gave me a pair of open ears encouraging me to listen to music outside of my comfort zone. When I first heard Thrash Metal (A phrase he coined) I did not get it at all, Now of course I do get it and I continue to embrace new music and well as enjoying the music I grew up with.

My thoughts are with Malcolm’s family, friends and work colleagues. May your words continue to inspire music fans for years to come.
