Alan White Tribute by Phil Aston

Alan White Tribute
1949 – 2022

This is my tribute to Alan White who sadly passed away recently.

This video is Dedicated to Alan, his family and all the music fans who have followed him over the years and the new ones who have yet to discover his great legacy.

The tribute is based on my own recollections of listening to Alan White, whether it was playing drums on Paul Kossoff’s solo album Back Street Crawler, YES or his 1976 solo album Ramshackle.

Alan White co-wrote my favourite track by YES which is Turn of The Century from the 1977 album Going For The One. It is one of the most beautiful and moving songs ever written and everyone should hear it, even if you think you do do not like YES.

The other song is Awaken, also from Going for The One, this is sheer genius and as Chris Wright said on the Now Spinning Facebook Group people will be talking about this in a 100 years time.

Alan White and Chris Squire were a formidable rhythm section and I like to think they are jamming away somewhere right now.

Take care, stay safe and today play some YES.
