The Don Powell Band has just unleashed a brand-new single—“Na Na Na!”—and it’s FAB!
This track is a tribute to the legendary drummer Cozy Powell, and to make it even more special, Don is playing on Cozy’s actual original Yamaha drum kit (courtesy of its current custodian, Bob Richards). That alone makes my inner music geek heart skip a beat!
Cozy Powell Tribute & Don Powell’s Legacy
Now, let’s clear up the confusion: Don Powell and Cozy Powell weren’t related—but the mix-ups happened all the time. Don, of course, is famously from Slade, while Cozy made his mark with Rainbow, Whitesnake, and several others. They crossed paths many times over the years, sharing plenty of laughs about the “Powell” name mix-ups. Sadly, Cozy passed away in 1998, but his legacy as one of rock’s greatest drummers lives on—and this new single pays heartfelt homage to that.
Chart-Storming Releases & Band Lineup
“Na Na Na!” follows a string of singles from The Don Powell Band—titles like “Deja Voodoo,” “My Sharona,” and “I Am The Beat,” which each spent 12 weeks on the charts, hitting number one and never dropping lower than the top five.
Who’s behind the music:
Don Powell – Drums (Slade legend)
Steve Whalley – Vocals/Guitar
Craig Fenney – Bass/Guitar
Jon Bates – Keyboards
Many of you might recognise Steve and Craig from the respected Slade II, and the band’s synergy is evident in every track. Production duties come from Two Coats—Craig Fenney and Jon Bates—who have worked on all of Don Powell Band’s recent hits.
Na Na Na!” is available as a digital download.

I’m thrilled to see Don Powell continuing to make waves. He’s a drummer who’s shaped the sound of British rock for decades, and this single is another notch in an already stellar career. Paired with a tribute to Cozy Powell, “Na Na Na!” feels like a real moment for all of us who admire these influential drummers.
